We do not allow Little Free Libraries to be added to our parks. Even if the resident offers to maintain the library, our policy is to not allow. Here is response we can provide to residents via the Capital & Strategic Planning section:
In recent years, we (and other park systems) have seen an increase in short and long term maintenance tasks associated with little free libraries in our parks. They are exposed to the elements and are susceptible to turnover in community groups. We have seen litter and well-intended food items placed in them. Columbus Recreation and Parks maintenance staff does visit and maintain each park regularly, but often cannot keep up with the little free library needs on top of their existing workload. Due to these factors, it has been our position to not support the placement of little free libraries in our parks. Little free libraries are most successful when individual property owners maintain them and can monitor frequently.
