The park is maintained on the same maintenance schedule as other city parks in the surrounding area. We try to mow the park every week, depending on weather, staff, and equipment issues. Trash is typically collected on Mondays and Fridays, and sometimes on a third day if needed, when the crew is mowing.
If there are safety concerns, we advise contacting the Columbus Police when the concerns are being witnessed. Park maintenance staff do not have enforcement powers of any kind, and our staff use the police when we see safety concerns in the parks ourselves.
Due to budget constraints, we cannot add more units to any park. You can rent one, but it will have to be set in the parking lot, as we cannot have the truck or unit on the grass close to the shelter.
Compost Clubhouse picks up the bins in parks on Thursdays. Contracted through SWACO.
Compost Clubhouse's phone number is 614-500-3927.
Please report any illegal activity to CPD. Park amenities are available for the entire community; we do not want to take them away from the public when the issue could be addressed through other means.
Thank you and have a great day.
Hello,
We do our best to remove dead animals in areas that would impact park use. The Division of Refuse helps out with larger animals if near a roadway or parking lot. Dead animals out in the woods are usually left, allowing nature to take its course.
Hello,
Unfortunately, the removal process at Hoover, Griggs, and O’Shaughnessy typically takes three to four weeks to complete. It’s not a quick task — it requires specialized equipment, a trained crew, and careful coordination of many logistical details.
We begin removal in November to stay ahead of winter temperatures. This timing ensures that the structures are taken out of the water before there’s any risk of ice formation. More importantly, it helps protect staff by minimizing their exposure to extreme cold conditions while working on and around the water, making the process safer overall.
Thank you, and have a great day.
Thank you for contacting the Columbus Recreation and Parks Department! We are aware of the widespread snowfall and are actively working to clear all parks and trails. Our crews are following a priority schedule, focusing first on making parks safely passable before completing full clearing efforts. We appreciate your patience and understanding as this work continues.
Thank you and have a great day!
We are adjusting trash can locations in some parks to improve the efficiency of our trash collection routes and help keep parks clean.
In some areas, cans were located very close together. By removing or relocating a few cans to more strategic locations, staff can spend less time making stops and more time maintaining the parks overall. When making these changes, crews focused on removing cans that were rarely used and keeping or adding cans in areas that regularly fill up.
We understand some visitors are used to cans being in specific locations. We will continue monitoring how the new setup works and will make adjustments if needed. We also appreciate feedback about locations where a trash can may be needed.
Thank you for helping us keep our parks clean!
